Proven, Effective History

Acupuncture originated in China and other far Eastern cultures, where it still features in mainstream healthcare, both as a stand alone therapy and in combination with conventional western medicine. More and more people are finding out what Acupuncture can do for them.

Who has Acupuncture?

Many people come to acupuncture for help with specific symtpms or to relieve specific pains, like osteoarthritis of the knee. Some use acupuncture because they feel generally unwell but have no obvious diagnosis. Others choose acupuncture simply to enghance their feeling of wellbeng. Acupuncture is considered suitable for all ages and can be used effectively alongside conventional medicine.

How can Acupuncture help Me?

Some people turn to acupuncture for help with a specific symptom, others to help maintain good health as a preventative measure, or simply to improve their genreal sense of wellbeing. Traditional acupuncture treats the whole person, rather than just isolated conditions, so each patient's treatment plan will be different. Many people return to acupuncture again and again because they find it so beneficial and relaxing.

What happens when I go for treatment?

The acupuncturist will use a number of diagnostic methods to get a complete picture of your health. This will include taking a medical history, reading your pulse, and looking at your tongue to create your personal treatment plan. Acupuncture points are then selected according to your symptoms as well as your underlying energy pattern.

Single-use sterile needles come in sealed packs, and are safely disposed of after treatment. They are much finer than needles used for injections or blood tests; so fine that most people don't feel them being inserted.

Sometimes the needles are placed for just a second or two, or you may be left to rest for a while before they are removed. It is normal to feel a mild tingle or dull ache as the needles are adjusted, and generally most people feel deeply relaxed during treatment.
